Cat Rescue Operations
Building Lifelines for Cats and the Communities That Care for Them
The Script Kitty Foundation exists to protect life, dignity, and connection. That belief extends fully to animals, especially cats who have been forgotten, abandoned, or born into circumstances stacked against them.
Our Cat Rescue Operations focus on direct action, long-term infrastructure, and community-powered solutions. We work locally in Pittsburgh and across Puerto Rico, supporting both immediate rescue needs and systemic change.
This work is rooted in respect for local rescuers, evidence-based animal welfare practices, and the belief that technology and compassion together can save lives at scale.
Our Core Focus Areas
Local Pittsburgh Rescue and TNR Support
Pittsburgh is home. Our commitment begins here.
We actively support Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats across the region. These programs are proven to reduce suffering, stabilize populations, and improve coexistence between cats and neighborhoods.
Our local efforts include:
- Supporting and expanding TNR initiatives
- Providing supplies, equipment, and technical assistance to local rescuers
- Assisting fosters with monitoring tools and safety infrastructure
- Helping shelters and rescue partners reduce overcrowding
- Supporting emergency medical care when resources are limited
We believe that strong local rescue ecosystems require both compassion and capacity. Our goal is to strengthen both.
Puerto Rico Rescue and Infrastructure Support
Puerto Rico is family to us. The scale of animal abandonment and suffering on the island demands sustained attention and real resources.
We are committed to ongoing support for Puerto Rico through:
- Direct rescue and foster assistance
- Funding emergency veterinary care
- Supporting local rescuers who are already doing heroic work
- Helping build long-term infrastructure instead of one-time interventions
As part of this effort, we plan to organize on-the-ground trips to Puerto Rico to collaborate directly with local partners.
These trips will focus on:
- Identifying high-risk dumping areas
- Deploying discreet monitoring systems to document and deter abandonment
- Supporting foster networks with technology and supplies
- Training local volunteers on sustainable rescue practices
- Listening to and amplifying the needs of those already serving the community
This is not charity from a distance. It is partnership.
Technology as a Force Multiplier for Rescue
A defining part of Script Kitty Foundation’s work is the integration of technology into rescue operations.
Through our Open Source Gadget Lab and community workshops, we design and deploy tools that directly support animal welfare.
These include:
- Camera systems for monitoring colonies and dumping hotspots
- Remote monitoring tools for foster homes and recovery spaces
- Environmental sensors for temperature, safety, and health conditions
- Secure live streaming tools for transparency and fundraising
- Custom hardware built with affordability and replicability in mind
All tools are developed as open source projects, allowing rescues anywhere to adapt, improve, and deploy them without barriers.
We believe rescue should not be limited by access to expensive technology. Knowledge shared saves more lives.
Emergency Support for Fosters and Rescuers
Many rescues operate on the edge of burnout and financial strain. When emergencies hit, support often arrives too late or not at all.
Script Kitty Foundation works to close that gap by:
- Providing emergency assistance funding when available
- Helping fosters access monitoring and safety tools
- Supporting rapid response coordination during crises
- Amplifying urgent needs through our platform and community
By reducing the pressure on individual rescuers, we help ensure they can continue doing the work their communities rely on.
A Model Designed to Scale Responsibly
While Pittsburgh and Puerto Rico are our primary focus, our long-term vision is broader.
As our programs mature, we plan to:
- Document best practices
- Create repeatable rescue technology kits
- Share open frameworks with partner organizations
- Support other regions that face similar challenges
Expansion will be deliberate, collaborative, and guided by the needs of local communities.
Why This Work Matters
Cat rescue is not only about animals. It is about public health, community stability, and collective responsibility.
Effective TNR reduces shelter intake and euthanasia. Monitoring and documentation deter abuse and abandonment. Supporting rescues strengthens neighborhoods and saves taxpayer resources. Empowering local caretakers creates lasting change.
When we protect the most vulnerable lives, we strengthen the fabric of the entire community.
How You Can Help
There are many ways to be part of this work:
- Donate to support rescue operations and emergency care
- Sponsor technology deployments for local or Puerto Rico partners
- Volunteer skills, time, or expertise
- Contribute equipment or resources
- Partner with us as a rescue organization or institution
Every contribution builds a bridge between compassion and action.
Our Commitment
We do not believe in performative rescue. We believe in showing up, listening, building tools, and staying.
Script Kitty Foundation is committed to protecting cats, supporting the people who care for them, and creating systems that make rescue work safer, smarter, and more sustainable.
This is how we save lives together.
